Hashtags have become pretty standard issue when it comes to brands and media. Every storm and primetime premiere has a hashtag, as do elections and other large public events. It’s become de rigueur
But what about smaller affairs? If hashtags can conquer the public sphere, why not use them as a handy shorthand for personal occasions as well? Individuals are taking note and taking a cue from commercial enterprise.
The latest hashtag trends revolve around more personal use.
Weddings
From the “save the date”, to party planning, registry information, wedding travel advice and sharing photography links, more and more tech savvy couples are branding their nuptials with a hashtag. These hashtags allow friends and family to follow along, getting a sneak peek at the bridesmaids dresses, floral inspiration and the best place to grab a sandwich while in town for the wedding.
Babies
First comes love, then comes marriage then comes baby in a baby carriage. Hello hashtag! When tech savvy hashtag loving couples get pregnant, they are bound to spread the good news using a hashtag. Celebrities are amongst the first to seed this new tradition: A recent example was the announcement by Fergie and Josh Duhamel of #MyLovelyBabyBump. Couples using a hashtag to celebrate their pregnancy might use the tag when sharing sonogram images, food cravings, gender reveal news, nursery pictures and even labor and delivery updates.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about personal hashtag use.
What other personal uses of hashtags have you seen?
Do you think that certain platforms (Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, etc) are a more “appropriate” place for personal hashtag than others?
