Hashtracking caught up with Katja Presnal, Owner / Editor-in-chief of Skimbaco Lifestyle online magazine. Katja is a Hashtag Influencer, who has been using Hashtags on Twitter and beyond for more than five years. Here’s some of the stuff she loves about hashtags, and more on how she is using hashtags in her life and business.
What platforms do you use or track hashtags on?
Twitter & Instagram. My favorite social media tool is Instagram so I use hashtags there daily.
Is there a hashtag you’ve used that made a difference for your client, or the world?
#betterbasket - It was for a cause-related Easter campaign I designed for Hershey and the more people used the hashtag, the more we were able to gain blog posts, and Hershey donated money for a charity per each post generated. It was a great way to promote my client but also do something good.
What is it about hashtags that have made them “stick”? Why do you think the world loves them?
Hashtags make it easy to unite people around a common interest and find new people who share the same interest or passion or who simply just want to talk about the same topic at the same time.
Do you have a personal hashtag for your brand/biz or chat? If so, what is it and what can you tell us about it?
On Instagram I encourage people to use #Skimbaco hashtag for the moments when they are living life to the fullest. In each of my newsletter I feature photos my community has taken and it’s just a great way to show that Skimbaco is for everyone and can mean something different for everyone. In addition I also have #IGTravelThursday hashtag for travel photos and blog posts on Thursdays. It is part of a collaborative project I am leading with selected travel bloggers around the world.
What insights do you gain from using hashtags and how do you execute on that insight?
I have been able to sell sponsorships, get consulting clients or proven myself as an expert relying on the hashtag insights information I have gained. The measurable goals are essential in any business, including mine.
We’re grateful to Katja for sharing her insight and the ways that she is using hashtags to connect with her followers, and can’t wait to see what she will be doing next.
Are you using hashtags in new, exciting and interesting ways? Have hashtags been instrumental to, and successful for your campaigns or research? Do you lead an active weekly hashtag chat? We’d love to feature you and/or your hashtag success story in our Hashtag Influencers series!
